A Birthday!

Yesterday was Woody Allen’s 70th birthday. I watched one of his movies yesterday, his character was elaborating on an important issue: “In some third world countries, many people only care about finding food and shelter. But in the affluent ones such as the U.S., people worry about such things as falling in love with another person. Personal problems get more complicated in more affluent societies.” Indeed! I also make a distinction between “real” and “esoteric” problems. Real problems include hunger, poverty, homelessness, sickness, etc. Esoteric ones are like “Finding the love of your life”, “Feelings of resentment towards the society”, “Not feeling that great these days out of boredom”, and my favorite: “Pondering about the meaning of life.” One is hungry and unhappy; the other one is bored and unhappy.
